The skinny

Skyline, which upset Brighton 1-0 in nine innings in Tuesday’s predistrict, will take on a Dexter team that got to the district final last year. Pinckney has been up and down this season, beating Brighton 2-0, losing to Hartland 1-0 and to Howell 3-1. All those were in the first game of doubleheaders. The nightcaps where ghastly for the Pirates. Pinckney also beat Dexter 4-3 during the regular season, so it’s unlikely anyone will look past them today.

The streak

Howell is looking to win its sixth district title in a row under  co-coaches Jason Ladd and Mike Weatherly. The Highlanders have dealt with injuries throughout the season, and the flexibility gained should come in handy today.

The (radar) guns

If Howell’s Sam Weatherly pitches today, expect the usual coterie of scouts behind home plate. They might not be as numerous as early in the season, when two-thirds of the teams in the major leagues crowded in for a game with Lakeland, but the lefty has been sparking interest throughout the season. That’s despite not pitching as much as he did last year. He’s been contributing elsewhere, hitting around .500 most of the season. As for his future, he’s signed with Clemson.
