The legacy of Ypsilanti legend Scott Davis will live on forever at Harris Road Park, where he got his start as a Little Leaguer more than 40 years ago.

In an opening-day ceremony on Saturday morning, the Ypsilanti National Little League dedicated its soon-to-be-built fieldhouse at Harris Road Park’s Arrwood Field in Davis’ memory.

The Scott Davis Fieldhouse will feature a press box, storage facilities and more, and will welcome new generations of baseball fans for decades to come.

Davis passed away last month at his home in Colorado at the age of 58. A legendary all-sports athlete who graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1977, Davis went on to play quarterback for four seasons at Eastern Michigan University. He’s still considered one of the greatest athletes in Ypsi history.

Davis’ untimely death stunned the Ypsilanti community, and officials with the Ypsilanti National Little League decided to honor his memory by naming the new fieldhouse for him. Davis got his start playing in the league in the early 1970s with his younger brother, Jeff. His dad, Jimmy, coached them in the Ypsilanti National Little League.

Scott’s mother, Carol, and his sister, Jamie Davis Clingan, were on hand for the dedication on Saturday morning, and Carol followed by throwing out the season’s first pitch.
