A 39-year-old Howell woman was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor Wednesday in critical condition after her foot became entangled in the rear wheel of an ATV, which resulted in her being ejected from the ATV.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at about 10:55 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, to the accident site on Wiggins Road, north of Dean Road in Deerfield Township.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 27-year-old Brighton man was traveling south on Wiggins Road with the Howell woman as his passenger when she was ejected from the ATV, which was designed for one juvenile rider.
The woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition, while the ATV driver sustained no injuries. Neither was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Alcohol and speed do not appear be contributing factors in the crash. The roadway remained closed for two hours for the investigation and clean up.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Hartland Fire Department, and Livingston County EMS.
This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
