A 37-year-old Flint woman is in critical condition at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor after a head-on crash Tuesday on U.S. 23.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, to northbound U.S. 23 north of Hyne Road in Brighton Township on the report of a multiple-vehicle injury crash.
The preliminary investigation found that a 2011 Chevrolet Impala being driven by the 37-year-old Flint woman was heading south on U.S. 23 when her vehicle crossed the median into oncoming traffic. She crashed head-on into a 2009 Ford F-450 being driven by a 36-year-old Sterling man. The impact of the crash forced the Ford F-450 into the right lane of U.S. 23 into a 2020 Peterbilt semi-tractor and trailer being driven by a 40-year-old Alpena man.
The driver of the Chevrolet Impala was transported to U-M Medical Center in Ann Arbor in critical condition. The Ford F450 operator had minor injuries and refused treatment. The Peterbilt operator was not injured.
Speed appears to be a factor, while distracted driving and intoxicant use may be contributing factors in this crash. The roadway was closed for approximately four hours during the investigation.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Livingston County EMS, Hartland Area Fire Department, Brighton Area Fire Department, MDOT Courtesy Patrol, and MDOT.
The incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
