A group of young white men wearing masks spent Saturday afternoon at the Brighton Mill Pond, shouting at passersby.
The “White Lives Matter” group looked just like the one that demonstrated in downtown Howell on July 20, from their all-black outfits and cartoon skull masks, to their signage. That group, which marched around downtown Howell and then apparently made its way to the Latson Road overpass over I-96, was concerned about what it viewed as a “war on white children” and “white replacement.” (Our coverage of the July 20 event is below.)
The group in downtown Brighton appeared to be smaller than the one in Howell.
The Forest and Fillies boutique located in downtown Brighton near the demonstration closed for the day because of the “hateful demonstration taking place nearby,” and announcing in a Facebook post that “hate has no place in our community,” and that it wanted to “ensure the safety and well-being” of employees and customers.
In a Facebook video, an employee with Brighton Coffeehouse and Theater talked about the protest. You can view it by clicking here: https://fb.watch/u0SsVAGmgj/
