It’s no surprise that Livingston County once again has the highest median household income in Michigan, according to data recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau. What some may find surprising is how much wealthier Livingston County is when compared to other communities.
So, how rich are we?
Livingston’s median household income was $103,039 in 2024, the highest among Michigan’s 83 counties, based on the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey five-year average.
That median income is just over 6% higher than neighboring Oakland County, which ranks as Michigan’s second-wealthiest; and it’s 12% higher than Leelanau County, which rounds out Michigan’s Top 3 wealthiest counties with a median household income of $91,943.
Even more surprising is that the median household income in Livingston County is a whopping 42% higher than that of Michigan, which had a median income for all households at $72,875. It’s 23% higher than the median household income of the entire United States, which is $83,370 for 2024.
Some other interesting facts about Livingston County, according to the U.S. Census Bureau:
• 2024 population is nearly 197,000 residents.
• The median value of owner-occupied homes is $356,800.
• Livingston County households with computers: 96.9%
• Livingston County households with broadband internet subscriptions: 93.3%
