Weapons prohibited in workplace for House staff

House staff members are prohibited from bringing weapons into the workplace according to policy update made by leadership, House Democratic Spokesperson Amber McCann told reporters during Tuesday’s afternoon session. McCann said House Speaker Joe Tate (D-Detroit)’s policy change, which includes all weapons and not just firearms, is not exclusive to one party, but does exclude representatives. It also does not apply to staffers hired to provide security, with a nod to House sergeants. The policy within the House Business Offices' rules and procedures reads: “Staff are not to bring guns or other weapons to any property managed by the House
