WATCH: Candidates offer compelling closing statements in Hartland debate

One of the largest crowds ever to watch a political debate in Livingston County packed the Hartland Educational Support Services Center on Thursday evening to watch candidates in five highly contested races square off.

Several hundred people were on hand for the event. Below are the closing statements from four of the debates (our apologies – we were unable to get video of the 22nd District State Senate debate between Democrat Adam Dreher and Republican Lana Theis).

The 42nd District State House race is an open seat featuring Republican Ann Bollin and Democrat Mona Shand. The seat is being vacated by Theis as she runs for State Senate. The district features the Brighton, Hamburg and Pinckney area.

The 47th District State House race features incumbent Republican Rep. Hank Vaupel against Democratic challenger Colleen Turk. This district features the Howell, Hartland, Fowlerville and Gregory area.

The 44th Circuit Court race is an open seat featuring Dennis Brewer and L. Suzanne Geddis. It covers all of Livingston County. Here are their closing statements:

The 8th Congressional District race pits incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Bishop against Democratic challenger Elissa Slotkin. Libertarian Brian Ellison is also on the ballot and was invited to participate in the debate.
