The Village of Hartland will celebrate the unveiling of the “Village Welcome” mural at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, marking the official start of the 2024 hARTland Art Walk, which runs Sept. 21. to Oct. 5.
Created by local artist Susan Spominville, the mural was originally painted as a 48″x30″ oil on canvas and has been enlarged into a striking 20’x8′ mural installed in the Village of Hartland. The mural honors Hartland’s history, community spirit, and iconic landmarks, with each letter reflecting a unique aspect of the town’s identity — from its agricultural roots to its vibrant local traditions.
The mural was made possible through the generous support of Explore Brighton Howell Area and the Hartland Chamber of Commerce, both of which have been instrumental in bringing the project to life. The unveiling ceremony is free and open to the public, and the first 50 attendees will receive commemorative cards featuring the mural.
The hARTland Art Walk is a free, annual event open to the public that showcases local art and artists through a walking tour of installations, exhibitions, and interactive activities. Highlights include a Scavenger Hunt, the dog-friendly Paw-Traits event, and the creative Stretch & Sketch workshop. The two-week celebration concludes on Oct. 5 with a closing ceremony and the announcement of award winners.
“This mural represents the heart of Hartland — its history, its people, and its spirit of unity,” Pominville said. “I’m honored to share this piece as a lasting tribute to a few of the things that make Hartland a place to call home.”
