A driver fleeing City of Brighton police officers attempting to stop him for reckless driving on West Grand River Avenue at about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday died after crashing into other vehicles on Old U.S. 23, leaving a debris field that spanned over a quarter mile.

According to reports, police said the driver of a black Dodge Charger would not stop when they attempted to pull him over. The pursuit went from West Grand River Avenue to Beaver Street, to North East Street, to Flint Road and Hilton Road, and then to Old U.S. 23; the suspect drove in the northbound lanes trying to pass a southbound vehicle, and while trying to merge back into the correct lane, sideswiped the southbound vehicle, spun around, struck a northbound vehicle, and then rolled over.

The suspect, who was alone in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The sideswiped driver was reportedly uninjured, and the driver of the northbound vehicle is reported to have sustained minor injuries.

The drivers of all the involved vehicles were wearing seat belts. The incident remains under investigation.
