Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at 5:04 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, to a rollover crash on southbound U.S. 23 south of Highland Road (M-59) in Hartland Township.
According to a release from the Sheriff’s Office, a 2009 Ford Fusion being driven by a 49-year-old Wixom man was traveling south on U.S. 23 when it lost control, left the roadway, and struck a traffic signpost. The vehicle continued to travel off road until it overturned several times. There were no passengers in the car.
The driver, who was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS where he is hospitalized with serious injuries.
The release said that while alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash, drugs do. The roadway was partially closed for about three hours for the investigation and clean up.
Deputies were assisted the scene by Hartland Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS and MDOT Courteous Patrol.
This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
