Sharing is caring!

The Livingston County United Way’s 17th annual “Matching Money Monday” is set for Monday, Dec. 9. The one-day fundraising challenge leverages the support of community sponsors to provide critical services to local families in need. Every dollar raised during the event goes farther, thanks to the matching contributions.

Proceeds from the one-day event are invested directly into local health and human service programs that fall under three key pillars: health and wellness, successful youth, and thriving families. Since its inception in 2008, LCUW has raised over $5 million for local programs through Matching Money Monday.

“The number of struggling working families in Livingston County is greater than ever,” said Carrie Newstead, executive director of LCUW. “Over the past year, we’ve seen many of our people working harder, yet not getting ahead due to increased costs of groceries, gas, utilities and more: the most basic services.”

The Livingston County United Way focuses its effort to support families who are ALICE — asset limited, income-restrained, and employed — Newstead explained.

“The most recent ALICE report shared that the number of families working but still struggling is up 5 percent over the previous year,” she said. “We know that 28% of our families are not living just above the poverty level, or in poverty. Contributing to Matching Money Monday means making a tangible difference in the lives of neighbors in need.”
