The 20th Annual Day of Caring of the Livingston County United Way is set for Wednesday, Aug. 10. The largest single-day community service event in Livingston County now has volunteer and worksite registrations open.
In 2021, the United Way brought together 563 volunteers who worked 741 shifts to complete 67 projects ranging from assisting senior citizens with home-related projects and improvements to building wheelchair ramps, collecting school supplies and packing 932 backpacks.
The deadline for worksite project nominations is June 21; each submission is reviewed for approval by the Livingston County United Way Day of Caring committee. The LCUW collects worksite proposals from residents, schools and non-profit agencies; anyone can recommend a worksite and people are encouraged to apply for a neighbor or friend who needs extra help.
Volunteers can register individually or as a group, designating preferences for location, type of project, special skills needed, and specific shift times (9 a.m. to noon; 1-4 p.m.; or full day). Deadline for volunteer registration is June 21.
Companies, clubs and organizations are encouraged to participate together. Anyone unable to participate in this event but wanting to help in some way could consider a company sponsorship or a personal donation, which will be used to buy supplies for Day of Caring worksite projects.
