After receiving a report of an overturned vehicle or a couch in the median of I-96 east of Latson Road in Genoa Township, deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office discovered a fatal car crash.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 12:53 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, deputies were dispatched to the site of the crash. The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2019 Nissan Altima was traveling east on I-96 when it went off the roadway and into the median. The vehicle continued off the roadway until it struck a tree and overturned.

Speed, alcohol and drugs appear to be the contributing factors in the crash.

The driver of the Nissan Altima, who was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Livingston County EMS.

The roadway remained partially closed for four hours for the investigation and clean up.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Brighton City Police Department, Hamburg Township Police Department, Brighton Area Fire Department, MDOT, and Livingston County EMS.

This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
