A Saturday evening crash at Highland (M-59) and Cullen roads in Hartland Township claimed the lives of two Berkley residents, and sent two Howell residents to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor with life-threatening injuries.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, a 2023 Kia Soul being driven by a 65-year-old Berkley man was traveling east on M-59 and crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic, crashing head on into a 2023 Ford Bronco being driven by a 50-year-old Howell woman heading west on M-59.
The driver and his passenger in the Kia Soul — a 66-year-old Berkley woman — were deceased on scene. The driver and her passenger in the Ford Bronco — a 53-year-old Howell resident — were both transported to U-M Hospital by Livingston County EMS with life threatening injuries.
Alcohol is under investigation, and it appears that all occupants were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
Deputies, who were dispatched at about 8:22 p.m., were assisted by Livingston County EMS, Hartland Area Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Livingston County Dispatch.
The incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
