Trinity Health Livingston recently received Level IV Trauma Designation from the state of Michigan. This designation means the hospital has demonstrated its ability to provide advanced trauma life support, including evaluation, stabilization and diagnostics, prior to transferring patients to a higher-level trauma center.
Trauma centers are ranked from levels one to four, with level one treating the most critical patients and level four providing initial evaluation, stabilization and transfer to a higher level of care as needed.
“Earning Level IV trauma certification is a significant accomplishment for our hospital and a tremendous benefit to the communities we serve in Livingston County,” said John O’Malley, president of Trinity Health Livingston and Trinity Health Medical Center – Brighton. “It’s something that takes a dedicated and hardworking team to achieve. I could not be prouder of our team’s accomplishments and the high-quality care they continue to provide our patients.”
Trinity Health Livingston is the only hospital in Livingston County and, as such, provides much needed high-level care to county residents. Level IV trauma designation means the hospital and trauma program ensures patients get the right care within the right amount of time, and have specially trained emergency doctors and nurses for trauma patients 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Trinity Health Livingston provides initial trauma evaluation for injuries and through its close relationship with Trinity Health Ann Arbor, a Level 1 Trauma Center, patients can be transferred to receive a higher level of care when needed.
To receive its trauma designation, Trinity Health Livingston developed written policies and procedures, acquired specific supplies and equipment for trauma patients, and created processes for ongoing improvements. This effort signifies a strong commitment and dedication from the hospital to the Livingston County community.
