As part of Michigan’s Youth Apprenticeship Week — observed May 5-11 — Torch 180 is hosting an open house for potential students, parents, supporters, teachers, administrators, and anyone interested in learning more about the Torch 180 training program. The event is set for 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at Torch 180 Café and Coffee Bar, 131 Mill St., Fowlerville.

Guided tours by Apprentice Blake will run 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. An informational program with an interactive game and TED Talks by Torch 180 apprentices Vik, Blake and Shaun, as well as Brian Smith of MCTI, and founder Rhonda Callahan will take place from 1-2 p.m., with more guided tours from 2-3 p.m. The Café and Coffee Bar will be open for food and coffee service during its usual hours, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Founded in 2015 and based in Fowlerville, Torch 180 is an innovative organization, a one-of-a-kind training center offering vocational training in a state-of-the-art restaurant facility for persons with disadvantages who seek and obtain gainful employment.

The restaurant and coffee shop are open to the public and are operated by Torch 180 students. The opportunities and resources Torch 180 provides for its students and employees with disadvantages is critical to securing and sustaining gainful employment and helping these adults turn their lives around – to “do a 180!”
