It’s exactly 80 years since the The Nutcracker Ballet was first performed in the United States, and Brighton School of Ballet is proud to have brought this timeless classic to the local stage for nearly half that time. This year, the acclaimed production returns to the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec, 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8.
Beloved by people of all ages, The Nutcracker tells the story of Clara, a young girl who receives a toy nutcracker from her mysterious godfather at a Christmas Eve party. Adventure abounds when the nutcracker comes to life, whisking Clara away through a snowy forest of dancing snowflakes to the magical Land of Sweets, where she meets characters like the Cavalier Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy.
This whimsical production includes breathtaking, handmade sets — real snow seems to fall from the sky and a Christmas tree grows larger than life before the audience’s eyes. Paired with glittering costumes, the well-known music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and magnificent dancing, “The Nutcracker” will bring out the wide-eyed child in everyone this holiday season.
Brighton School of Ballet is also proud to continue the longstanding tradition of bringing professional artists to the local stage. This year, BSB again welcomes Michaela King and Alex Vrba, courtesy of Madison Ballet, to dance the roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier Prince, and Jesus Sanchez of Mauro Ballet of Puerto Rico returns in the title role of The Nutcracker.
Tickets are $32 each for reserved seating and must be purchased in advance at www.brightonschoolofballet.com, as they will not be available at the theater box office.
Located on Main Street in Downtown Brighton, Brighton School of Ballet will once again partner with its neighboring businesses for a ticket giveaway. Shoppers who purchase certain Nutcracker-themed items from Nov. 15 through Dec. 1 will automatically be entered to win 2 VIP tickets to the Saturday, Dec. 7, performance, as well as passes to meet the professional guest artists during an exclusive intermission reception. Brighton School of Ballet will also be performing excerpts from The Nutcracker at Brighton’s Holiday Glow on Nov. 23. Follow BSB on Facebook and Instagram for details.
