Five in custody after retail fraud leads to shots fired at GO Village Place Mall

Michigan State Police issued an update via Twitter that said at 8 p.m. Thursday, “during an attempt to stop suspects involved in an organizational retail fraud at the Ulta Store, shots were fired.

“There were no injuries to suspects or officers. Five suspects are in custody. The investigation is ongoing.”

According to news reports, there are 5 people in custody after a retail fraud event at the Ulta Beauty Store and Hair Salon at 9830 Village Place Boulevard in the Green Oak Village Place shopping center off U.S. 23.

The news report said there were shots fired, but it was unclear whether the shots were fired by the people in custody or the police. There is no threat to anyone in the area.

There were no injuries.

Earlier, the Michigan State Police tweeted on Thursday, Jan. 12, that troopers are on the scene of a shooting at the Green Oak Village Place Mall in Green Oak Township. It was not clear when the shooting took place, but the information was posted at approximately 9:30 p.m.
