St. Patrick School’s Drama Club presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Jr. at the St. Patrick Church Parish Life Center on April 20 at 7:30 p.m., April 21 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and April 22 at 2:00 p.m. The award-winning animated film and stage play come to life in this beloved take on the classic fairy tale.
The drama program is thriving at St. Patrick’s. This year, students are excelling in creative arts with the exciting Disney play chosen for this year’s production. This “tale as old as time’ is filled with spectacular costumes and an impressive set.
“Beauty and the Beast is the most challenging show that we have done to date,” said Kathleen Moore, the play’s director. “The costuming was my biggest challenge. We had to use a variety of resources, but I would say that we have the most elaborate costumes of any show that St. Pat’s has ever done! “
A spot on the esteemed cast of singers and actors is reserved for the upper middle school students in the school.
“Our cast and crew is made up entirely of 7th and 8th graders,” Moore said. “We have a cast of 28 extremely talented students and a crew of 13. Our show is entirely student run. Our students control the sound, lights, set changes and props.”
The Parish Life Center is located across from St. Patrick Church at 710 Rickett Road Brighton, MI and will be host to the school play.
“Technical Director Ron Garrison has made major changes to our staging which we know will dazzle and amaze our audiences,” Moore said. “He has expanded the size of the stage as well as made adjustments to our projection system.”
Preparation for this performance is high priority for this cast with rehearsals running consistently for four months up to the show date.
“I continue to be amazed daily by the talent and poise of this cast,” Moore said. “The singing and acting is top notch. It has been a joy to work with this group of amazing middle schoolers. Please make a point to see this show – it will not disappoint.”
