The 21st Annual South Lyon Area Creek Cleanup and Earth Day Event is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4, rain or shine. Volunteers will meet at the Michigan Seamless Tube and Pipe Co. parking lot, located at 400 McMunn St. in South Lyon, to safely removed trash and debris from South Lyon area creeks, streams and waterways within the Huron River Wastershed. Pizza and refreshments will be served at noon.
The clean up within the City of South Lyon, and the townships of Green Oak and Lyon, helps the free flow of storm water, which allows streets and drains to remain clear from rainwater and reduces the possibility of flooding.
Volunteers are strongly encouraged to wear bright long-sleeve shirts, long pants, rubber boots and gloves. Safety vests, sanitation, garbage bags and the like will be provided to volunteers. Needed but not required are rakes, shovels, pickup tools, and pickup trucks and trailers to haul trash to dumpsters. Tires are prohibited in the dumpster.
Sponsors of the event include: South Lyon Area Boy Scouts Troop 228; South Lyon Area Cub Scouts Pack 38; City of South Lyon Department of Public Works – Storm Water Management Planning Program; City of South Lyon Water Department – Wellhead Protection Program; Michigan Seamless Tube and Pipe Company; Larry and DeLynn Ledbetter; Martin’s Hardware; South Lyon Toarmina’s Pizza; Law Office of Julie A.
