U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin

Democratic U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin of Lansing is returning to Washington, D.C., for a third term to represent Michigan’s newly drawn 7th Congressional District, which includes all of Livingston, Ingham, Clinton and Shiawassee counties, as well as a majority of Eaton County and small portions of Oakland and Genesee counties, as well as the state capital of Lansing.

It’s been one of the most-expensive and hardest-fought Congressional races in the country. In a statement, Slotkin said that she received a call from state Sen. Tom Barrett, R-Charlotte, conceding the election.

“I’m so grateful to the people of Michigan for their support,” Slotkin said in a statement. “Tonight, voters have made clear that the politics are not what they want for our families or out state.

“I’m honored to be elected to represent Michigan’s 7th District, particularly at a moment that demands serious, pragmatic leadership.”

Slotkin, who said in an interview with The Livingston Post that her goal was to lose the very Republican Livingston County less than in previous runs, and it appears that she has. Her win in the City of Brighton was larger than in 2020, and she also won the City of Howell, by 13 votes. She also won Eaton County, which is where Barrett lives.

According to reports, students at Michigan State University were in line until midnight to cast votes.
