On Friday, May 5, 2023, U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Lansing) will join John Boerstler, chief veterans experience officer at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), for a town hall with local veterans to address the provisions of the Honoring Our PACT Act, which expands VA benefits to veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. The town hall begins at 12:30 p.m. Friday in East Lansing.
Slotkin and Boerstler will discuss how veterans can access care and answer questions surrounding this landmark law. The PACT Act, which was signed into law last year, is one of the largest health and benefit expansions in American history. Slotkin authored and introduced one of the component bills, the Veterans Burn Pits Exposure Recognition Act, which cut through red tape to make it easier for toxic exposed veterans to obtain specialized care and benefits.
This law also expands and extends eligibility for VA health care for veterans of the Vietnam era, Gulf War era, and Post-9/11 era.
Last month, the VA announced that over 3 million veterans have already received toxic exposure screenings since the PACT Act was signed into law.
The town hall welcomes veterans, their families, and their caregivers for open dialogue and to learn more about the PACT Act and how to access the many benefits it offers. VA doctors, nurses, benefits, and healthcare counselors will all be on-site and available for questions.
