U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, the Holly Democrat who represents Michigan’s 8th Congressional District, disagrees with the policy of paying members of Congress while the federal workforce is furloughed or required to work without pay during governmental shutdowns, so she is donating her salary to the Alzheimer’s Association.
As former member of the Department of Defense, Slotkin said she knows first-hand the damage government sequestrations and shutdowns do. She will donate her salary until the government reopens.
