U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Lansing) participated in a bipartisan press conference Wednesday on the importance of supporting our border agents and their mental health needs, as well as the need for smart, bipartisan solutions to the crisis at the southern border.

Slotkin was joined by GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas, and a bipartisan group of other members, as well as National Border Patrol Council President Brandon Judd.

“It’s important that we understand the bipartisan work that needs to go on to deal with our crisis at the border,” said Slotkin. “We all know that our immigration system is wholly broken, which means the personnel manning the southern border are bearing the brunt of Washington’s failed policies. I’ll work with anyone – Republican or Democrat – to find bipartisan border solutions.”

Slotkin has been an outspoken proponent of smart, bipartisan solutions to fixing our broken immigration system and addressing the crisis at the southern border. In the 116th and 117th Congresses, Slotkin introduced the bipartisan INTEL At Our Borders Act, which would require the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to apply cutting edge technology to help secure the border. She is also a member of the newly formed Bipartisan Border Security Technology Caucus.

Earlier this year, she introduced the Emergency Migration Response Act and the Border Security and Migrant Safety Act, which would direct the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to take a whole-of-government approach to prevent migration surges at the border before they happen, as well as requiring DHS to partner with countries in Central America to counter human trafficking efforts that exacerbate surges along the border.
