A 22-year-old Hartland Township man is dead after the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving eastbound on I-96 hit a guard rail near the Kensington Road exit and lost control at approximately 4:52 a.m. Saturday, July 20.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained a fatal injury, and was transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by the Livingston County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the man, who authorities believe was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, suffered from epilepsy and seizures; however, it is unknown whether he had a medical emergency at the time.
The right two eastbound travel lanes of I-96 remained closed for approximately three hours for the investigation and clean up.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Brighton Area Fire Department, and Livingston County EMS.
This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau and the Livingston County Detective Bureau.
