A 60-year-old Genoa Township man who had smoked a “large amount of crack cocaine” is in custody after the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in the 700 block of Menominee Drive about a suicidal subject.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the man, clad only in underwear and bleeding from both wrists, refused numerous verbal commands and attempts by deputies to de-escalate the situation. He became increasingly agitated and told deputies that he was going to fight them. When the man approached a deputy, he was tasered and taken into custody without further incident. Livingston County EMS transported the man to the hospital for the injuries he had caused himself, as well as for a mental health evaluation.

It was later determined the man had smoked a large amount of crack cocaine, which led to his mental health crisis.

The Sheriff’s Office is seeking charges through the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office for resisting and obstructing police.
