Sharing is caring!

In a recent online scam, at least one resident in Howell Township has received an email requesting payment for an outstanding balance as related to application fees for permits. The email, supposedly sent from the Howell Township Planning Commission, is fraudulent.

In this case, the invoice sent to the resident asked for nearly $5,000 to be paid in a wire transfer. You can see the redacted version below:

The township has placed an alert on its website, and is communicating with residents who have applied for permits to see if any of them have received the scam request.

It is not known whether similar payment requests are going out in other municipalities in the community. Anyone receiving a communication like this is asked to contact the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office at (517) 546-2440.
