On Sunday, July 19, 2020, Saint Mary Magdalen will celebrate outdoor Sunday Masses for the eighth consecutive week. Since May 31, the parish has encouraged people to safely return to Sunday Masses by orchestrating outdoor Masses with the audio available over an FM radio station.

“Parishioners can remain safely in their vehicles and still participate in and be present for Sunday Mass,” said Fr. Shaun Lowery. “Ideally I want my parishioners to be able to gather and to be here. This is their spiritual home. But the pandemic has changed how we can be Church and how we can be together in general. We will do anything we keep people safe and healthy.”

The parish continues to encourage all parishioners who are in vulnerable health populations to remain at home and to view Mass over the parish’s Livestream broadcast. For parishioners who wish to come to Mass indoors, both Saturday and weekday options exist with parishioners wearing masks, sitting socially distanced, and refraining from singing.

“Our church seats 1,000 people. The most we have had indoors attending a single Mass is around 100 people. We have not had to set up a reservation system. We just do not have the demand to attend Mass inside during this health crisis,” Lowery said. “People are being smart about their physical health, and still using the online and outdoor experiences we offer to stay spiritually healthy.”

Saint Mary Magdalen is located at 2201 S. Old 23 between Hyne and Hilton roads. Everyone is welcome to attend one of their two outdoor Masses on Sundays at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
