On Saturday, June 28, The Larry Prout Junior (The Bear) Courage Fund, will be hosting its third annual 5k and 1-mile fun-run fundraising event. The funds raised will help patients at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor who have current and ongoing life-threatening health issues, and who are receiving care that affects the financial situation of their families.
Larry Prout Jr. has undergone 114 surgeries at the hospital. Though he has many diagnoses, he’s never let any of them set him back. He’s strived as a community volunteer for local nonprofits to help others in need. He started The Larry Prout Junior (The Bear) Courage Fund in 2022, which has helped 185 families to date with the $200,000 it has raised since then.
With all the help Larry has received from his community, and more, Larry and his parents wanted to find a way to give back and help others. From gas, food, utilities, and more basic necessities, this fund lends a helping hand when families are undergoing hardships when caring for a loved one in a difficult medical situation.
“The best way is to help others, and to remember that we are all better together,” Larry said. “We must never give up and never lose hope, and everyday is a gift.”
The third annual Run With the Bear begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Navigator School complex at 2150 M-36 in Pinckney. Unlike in the past, the run this year will take place on the cross country course used by the school.
