BRIGHTON — Howell coach Jayne Williams chalked up her team’s 3-2 loss to Brighton on Thursday as a learning experience.
“It was a back-and-forth match,” she said of Brightons’ 25-17, 21-25, 25-19, 16-25, 15-11 victory. “(Brighton senior) Gabi Tschannen is tough to defend against. We did nice things when she wasn’t in there. We were able to keep them from running their systems and we played tougher than we have in our other matches this season.
“They’re a great team,” Williams said of Brighton. “When you play tough teams like that, you either rise to the occasion or fold, and the girls fought hard.”
Ivy Earl led Howell (8-8-2 overall, 2-3 KLAA West) with 11 kills and 22 digs. Cara Betz had 18 assists, Paige Fowler added 14 assists and 12 digs, and Selina Frantti served 10 points in the fourth set and finished with eight kills and six aces.
