A “loose and aggressive” steer was tracked, lassoed, and wrangled back into the trailer from which it had escaped on Monday, Aug. 28.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies with the Livingston County Animal Control Division were dispatched to the 2000 block of Clark Road in Hartland Township at about 2 p.m. Monday.

The owner of the steer was attempting to load it for transport when it broke free. The steer then escaped the property, running through several fences.

When they arrived, deputies learned that “Roper Joe” Heaman had been contacted and was on scene with Tilly, his 20-year-old quarter horse. The two captured the loose steer in no time.

In the release, the Sheriff’s Office thanked Heaman for his quick response in deploying his highly refined skill set.
