Former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers

Former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, R-White Lake, is “strongly considering” a run for the U.S. Senate seat that will be open after Democratic U.S. Sen. Gary Peters retires at the end of his current term.

Rogers posted on social media Thursday that he is “strongly considering joining the fight once again,” and teased that “good news is coming soon.”

Rogers narrowly lost his 2024 bid to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Debbie Stabenow to former U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Holly, by a margin of nearly 19,000 votes. Rogers and Slotkin each formerly represented Livingston County in the U.S. House.

The race for Peters’ seat will be one of the most-contested in the nation as Democrats work to regain control of the U.S. Senate; Republicans currently hold a 52-47 majority.
