Retired cop encourages people to thank police officers

Sharing is caring!

Kurt Skarjune, a retired Oak Park police officer who lives in Genoa Township, recently delivered to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office a print-out of comments he gathered together when he posted a challenge online asking people to thank police officers for their service.

Skarjune’s move comes during a time of great unrest, when people are protesting the use of excessive force by police. Skarjune maintains a “silent majority” supports the police, and they need to speak up.

“A couple of encouraging words like ‘thank you for your service’ can go a long way. I know because I received those same words 13 years after I retired,” Skarjune wrote in a letter. “Let’s not make our current heroes wait quite that long.”
