On Jan. 11, 2023, at approximately 1:20 a.m., deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were informed of a fleeing white 2010 Toyota Tundra heading west on I-96. The vehicle was fleeing from a Michigan State Police trooper who had attempted to stop it because it was not displaying a license plate. The sheriff’s deputy spotted the vehicle on I-96 near D-19, traveling at a high rate of speed.

The deputy activated his emergency lights and the Toyota continued to flee with speeds up to 110 mph on I-96. The vehicle exited at M-59 traveling east, at high rates of speed, and it went north on Latson Road. The Toyota continued at high rates of speed and would occasionally turn off its lights in an attempt to get away.

Deputies continued to follow the vehicle down several dirt roads before the Toyota began driving through yards near Antcliff and Steinacker roads. The deputies did not follow the Toyota in the yards but eventually found the Toyota unoccupied on a property near Antcliff Road and Pioneer Drive in Cohoctah Township.

Deputies search the Toyota and located several stolen guns and a bullet proof vest inside the truck. They searched the area but could not locate the driver, whom they believed to be the registered owner.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., a trooper form the Brighton Post went into the Mugg and Bops located at Oak Grove and Sanford roads. The clerk informed the trooper that a male fitting the description of the possible driver was in the bathroom. Additional troopers and deputies responded to the store and took the male into custody without incident when he exited the bathroom.

The suspect is a 35-year-old from Lansing who had several warrants from his arrest, which included one out of Lansing Police Department for felony armed robbery.

This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
