An unidentified white male was found dead from a gunshot at about 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 28, in a local business in the 100 block of West Grand River Ave. in downtown Howell, and a suspect has been detained in what police say is an isolated incident.
According to a release from the Howell Police Department, officers responding to reports of threats at the business found the man dead.
The investigation is ongoing at this time, according to the release.
While the Michigan Challenge Balloonfest is currently underway at the Howell High School complex, police emphasize that there is “currently no threat to the public.”
“This incident did not occur near the Balloonfest event and is in no way connected to the event,” police said. “All subjects involved are currently cooperating with the investigation. We ask that no one respond to the scene in order to give investigators time to conduct their investigation.”
The Howell Police Department is being assisted by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Green Oak Township Police, Hamburg Township Public Safety Department, and the Howell Area Fire Department.
