Mikel Patrick-James Brouner, 43, was arraigned Monday on a variety of charges after a Sunday incident in which he fired a gun numerous times both inside and outside his Oceola Township home, including to prevent his wife and children from fleeing.
Brouner is charged with two counts of discharging a firearm at a building, three counts of felony firearms, one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, four counts of fourth-degree child abuse, and one count of weapons possession under the influence.
Brouner is being held on $500,000 cash or surety bond.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Brouner was at his home in the 2000 block of Fisher Court at about noon Sunday when he fired several shots while standing in front of his wife’s vehicle as she was trying to back out of the driveway and leave with their children. Deputies found that he had previously fired his gun inside the home, with one of the rounds traveling through a wall into a room near where one the children was sitting.
His wife and children were able to leave the house unharmed. Once deputies were on scene, Brouner continued to fire his gun inside the house.
The Livingston Region Swat Team, along with the Livingston Regional Crisis Negotiation Team, assisted. After the negotiation team made contact with Brouner, he agreed to exit the resident and surrender. A search warrant was executed and several firearms were located, and there was evidence showing that a large number of shots were fired from inside the house into the walls and floors.
