A “No Kings” event is set for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 28, at the Howell Courthouse Amphitheater on Grand River Avenue in the heart of downtown Howell.
Will this be a repeat of the hugely successful Howell event on Oct. 18? It is estimated that about 2,500 people took part in that event, making it the largest (and, as we reported, the happiest) demonstration in Livingston County history.
The Howell event is one of thousands planned nationwide, and three others scheduled in the area thus far: A No Kings even hosted by Indivisible Livingston is set for noon to 2 p.m. at the Brighton Mill Pond, while another is set for noon to 2 p.m. at the Six Mile Bridge overlooking U.S. 23 (Exit 50) in Whitmore Lake, and one from 1-3 p.m. at McHattie Park in South Lyon.
Why are people taking to the streets for No Kings?
“When our families are under attack and costs are pushing people to the brink, silence is not an option,” said the No Kings website. “We will defend ourselves and our communities against this administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence.”
