A 77-year-old Redford man is dead after losing control of a 2012 Can-am motorcycle and crashing along eastbound I-96 east of Dorr Road in Genoa Township on Sunday.

Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at approximately 9:13 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10. The preliminary investigation indicates that the motorcycle may have experienced a tire issue. The driver lost control of the motorcycle, which left the roadway, overturned, and crashed into multiple trees; the man was ejected off the motorcycle in the crash, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver was not wearing a helmet.

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor, while speed remains under investigation. The highway remained closed for approximatley three hours for investigation and clean up.

The crash is still under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau. Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Livingston County EMS, Brighton Area Fire Department, Howell Area Fire Department, and the Michigan State Police.
