Nearly two years after it began, the Mike & Jon Got It Going On podcast will end on Friday, Dec. 1.
In an announcement video on Facebook, Jon King said that he and longtime co-host Mike Marino were going their own ways professionally.
Marino is a long-time licensed personal trainer with a long list of clients, and King began working full-time as senior reporter for Michigan Advance on Nov. 13.
“As such, my focus is now statewide news,” he said.
King also remains an adjunct faculty member of Cleary University.
After nearly two decades on the air at WHMI — and a year after the show won “Morning Show of the Year” from the Michigan Association of Broadcasters — the duo was out: King as the result of a “forced departure” by Krol Communications in response to an advertiser’s complaints, and Marino in a show of support. Krol Communications said that there were “fundamental disagreements” with King, who was also the station’s news director.
King went on to blame his forced departure on pressure from Meghan Reckling, then chair of the Livingston County GOP, and businessperson Steve Gronow, who pulled his advertising from the station over coverage of President Joe Biden’s visit to Howell in October 2021. (Read more by clicking here.)
After leaving the station, Marino and King launched the “Mike and Jon Got It Going On” podcast and website. While the podcast will cease on Dec. 1, King said he isn’t sure what is going to happen to the website. The last news story on the site was posted on Nov. 12.
“I am grateful that we had the opportunity to wrap up a more-than-25-year partnership on our terms,” King said.
