Sharing is caring!

Known as Michigan’s “Screaming Eagles,” the Michigan Chapter of the 101st Airborne Division Association hosts its 35th annual reunion this weekend — Sept. 16-18 — at the Hampton Inn in Brighton.

This year’s reunion provides the opportunity for members to gather to remember our soldiers and families, our Eagles who have soared, and our POWs and MIAs for the their sacrifices made in defense of liberties, freedoms, and individual and national sovereignty.

This year, Paul Schwimmer of Ann Arbor, a chapter member and former staff sergeant on the Special Forces Green Beret A-132 Team (Reserves), will receive a special award of recognition. Since 2009, he has participated in numerous search and discovery trips to the Philippines, France, Belgium, and Germany, and elsewhere to find the remains of more than 120 MIAs and 20 POWs.

The Chapter will be receiving a flag flown over the capitol from Mona Shand, district press secretary and Livingston County field representative for U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin.

In addition to remembering and supporting soldiers, families and local communities, the Michigan Chapter contributes financially to its association’s scholarship funds, emergency assistance programs, and disaster relief projects. It also supports patriotic, historical, and educational projects, like the WW11 Memorial in Royal Oak. It supports ROTC and JROTC programs in universities and high schools throughout Michigan. And, it sponsors a monthly luncheon — a “Gathering of Eagles” in Livonia — as well as an an annual reunion and memorial banquet, and its hosts the association’s national reunions whenever possible, most recently last month at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids.

Its beliefs, values, and traditions help form and sustain the traditional structure, foundation, and values of our families, and are woven into the social fabric of our local communities.
