Sharing is caring!

Doris Marie Jones

Doris Marie Jones, 84, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2024, after a two-year battle with cancer. She lived a life filled with happiness, laughter, and love.

From a young age, Doris faced adversity with grace, losing her mother, Helen, when she was just three years old. Yet, surrounded by her loving father Roman, her extended family, and caring nuns, Doris grew into a woman defined by generosity and love.

Doris shared 61 years of marriage to her beloved husband Melvin and was an incredible mother to 7 children, 26 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

She built a home that was warm and welcoming to all. This extended to the many babies and children she fostered through Catholic Charities, each one finding a temporary home filled with compassion and care.

Her nurturing personality also led her to volunteer at the University of Michigan Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, where she provided comfort to the tiniest patients.

Doris had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved traveling and playing tennis with her husband, walking with friends, and movie nights with the girls.

Her life was a beautiful blend of dedication to family, commitment to helping others, and a spirit that knew how to turn everyday moments into precious memories.

Doris was preceded in death by her granddaughter Audrey Snyder, son-in-law Dennis Wollant, brother James Mack, sister Carol Tomak, and parents Roman and Helen Mack.

She is survived by her husband Melvin Jones Jr., children: Cynthia (Mike) Rink, Denise (Martin) Babic, Barbara (Kurt) Vermilye, Gregory (Kelly) Jones, Pamela (Mark) Snyder, Christina (Scott) Gilroy, Michael (Theresa) Jones, and her sister Jane (Tom) Pittman.

A mass in remembrance of Doris will be held on Friday, July 19, at 11am, with a visitation starting at 10am, and a luncheon to follow at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 2201 S. Old U.S. 23, Brighton, Michigan 48114

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to either: Cure SMA or Hospice of the Western Reserve
