“Tuck Everlasting” is based on the novel of the same name by Natalie Babbitt. It tells the story of a family who drinks water from a magical spring and becomes immortal. When they encounter a young girl who lives in their rural New England town, she becomes friends with one of the sons, who soon offers her the secret to everlasting life. She then has to decide if she wants to join her new friends in immortality, or if she will live out her normal life. A timeless story of family, loss, friendship, and love, Tuck Everlasting is sure to become a classic favorite.
The show is directed by Susan Gronow and Alyssa Friday. The student director is Emma Rider. Produced by Katie Johnson and Alicia Rider.
From now until opening night, we’ll be introducing you to members of the cast. In today’s story, we meet Alyssa McCalla, a seventh-grader at Highlander Way Middle School in Howell who plays a townsperson and mother in the show.
Have you done any performing in the past?
This is my first CTH play/musical and I’ve done some summer camps with the theater group in Hartland.
What do you like about “Tuck Everlasting”?
I really like the character Winnie and the fun dialogue in the story. Also, the songs are super fun to listen to and the story teaches a lot of valuable lessons.
What role does your character play and what do you like about your character?
I play a townsperson and a mother. What I really like about them is the singing parts are fun and the character(s) have a lot of expressions which I think is extremely fun to act out.
Why should the audience come and see the show?
I think people should see the show because it is kids and kids are always fun to watch but also the broad elements that play a major role in the story, such as you can’t like forever and how a mysterious guy is tracking down an innocent family that has a life-changing secret.
What do you like doing when you’re not on stage?
I enjoy playing sports such as softball and skiing when I have time. Also, I love music, art, Netflix (or any type of show), puzzles, and video games. And, I also will read during the summer or bake fun treats!
