The Livingston Post is profiling cast members of the Community Theatre of Howell’s production of “Elf Jr. – The Musical,” which runs Dec. 10-12 and 17-19 at the Howell High School Freshman Campus.

Based on the widely popular Will Ferrell film, the hilarious musical tells the tale of Buddy the Elf, who leaves Santa Claus and his adopted family at the North Pole to search for his biological dad and search for his true identity in New York City.

The show is directed by Kevin Rogers and produced by Theresia Rogers. The production staff includes Tracey Pasfield (assistant director), Heather Douglas (assistant producer), Anni Ulman (choreographer), Chrissy Griffon (vocal director), Chris Clinton-Cali (costumer) and Brian Bickel (tech director).

In this story, we meet Ellie Ulman, who plays Jovie. An eighth-grader at Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy Middle School, Ellie’s mom and dad are Anni and Kevin Ulman, and she has a sister, Emma.

What previous stage experience have you had?

I have been at multiple shows at CTH and done theater at my school, my most recent show was “The Little Mermaid Jr.” at CSPA. I’ve done several summer theater camps since I was little at the Community Theater of Howell, and this summer I got the chance to be a teen director at the elementary camp.

What do you enjoy about the Community Theatre of Howell?

The Community Theater of Howell has always been one of my favorite places to be, no matter the show, I always have a great time. It is such an amazing and kind community, I am truly so grateful for everything this theater has done for me.  CTH is a place where the whole family can be involved which makes it really special.

What do you like about playing this role in the play?

I love bringing Jovie to life. I like how sassy and abrupt she can be, but she also has a very sweet and vulnerable side. I always loved Jovie in the movie version of “Elf,” and it has been so fun to play one of my favorite characters.

What can the audience expect with “Elf Jr.”?

Audiences can expect a heartwarming and hilariously sweet show. Everyone in this amazing cast has been working so hard to make sure it is an outstanding production. “Elf” is a Holiday classic, and I’m so excited to be a part of this musical. If you like the movie, you will love the musical just as much or more!

The Community Theatre of Howell is presenting “Elf Jr. – The Musical” at the Howell High School Freshman Campus, 1400 W. Grand River Ave., Howell. Shows are Dec. 10-12 and 17-19, with showtimes at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are available by clicking here.
