Carmen Pushman

Hartland High School sophomore Carmen Pushman has acted in dozens of productions since the age of 5, but she views every show as an opportunity to grow her performance skills. This fall, Pushman tells a tale of mystery as Ellen Casey, a focused private investigator, in Hartland Drama Club’s “Murder on the 518.”

We reached out to Pushman to ask about her experience with the train-themed whodunit.

What does this production of “Murder on the 518” mean to you?
This show means so much to me because this is my first “real” show at Hartland High School. With the shutdown last year and no theater, this is my first show since Covid and I’m so grateful to be a part of it!

How would you describe your character?
Ellen Casey is a very easily annoyed woman who really only cares about what she needs to do, and anyone who gets in her way is in for a rude awakening!

What is your favorite part about this show?
My favorite part about the show is the suspense and fun that’s created for everyone.

What do you do outside of Drama Club?
I hang out with friends, play my guitar and listen to music.

Do you wish to pursue theater after high school?
Yes!

Who is your hero?
Meryl Streep.

Do you like movies or TV shows? What is your favorite?
Both! My favorite movies are “Mamma Mia!” and “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” and my favorite show is “Grace and Frankie.”

What motivates you to work hard, both as a Drama Club member and in life?
Achievements!

Is there someone who inspired you to audition for this show?
All my past theater friends.

What do you hope the audience will get out of this show?
I hope the audience gets a kick out of the funny and loveable relationships between the characters. Watch your back — there’s a murderer on the train!
