After an entire day of negotiations, a Hartland Township man who had threatened to shoot at detectives from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office surrendered peacefully in the early evening hours of Friday, Nov. 10, 2023.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, at about 10 a.m. Friday, detectives attempted to arrest the man on a criminal sexual conduct warrant at a residence in the 1000 block of Old U.S. 23. Detectives made verbal contact with the man, and he refused to exit, and as they prepared to enter the residence to arrest him, the man claimed he would shoot at them if they entered.
Livingston County SWAT and the Livingston County Crisis Resolution Team were called in. Negotiators established contact with the suspect, and after continuous negotiations throughout the day, he surrendered peacefully in the early evening hours.
Additional charges against the man are being sought.
The Sheriffs Office and Livingston Regional SWAT were assisted by Livingston County EMS, Livingston Disaster Response Team (DART), and the Hartland Area Fire Authority.
