At approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday July 21, 2025, deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 4000 block of Bruff Road in Cohoctah Township on the report of a 30-year-old autistic man with Down syndrome who had gone missing.

The caller was the mother of the man, who reported that she was unable to find him. She had last seen him about 3-1/2 hours earlier outside the house.

After authorities conducted a three-hour search of the heavily wooded area, 911 received a call reporting a suspicious person in a yard over a mile away in the 11000 block of Rathbon Road. When deputies responded to the call, they located the suspicious person near the caller’s property and realized he was the missing man for whom they had been searching.

The man, who did not require any medical attention, was reunited with his family at their home.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by the Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Office, Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit, Howell Area Fire Department, Morrice Police K9, and Hamburg Township Public Safety Department.
