Man jailed after fleeing deputies during traffic stop in Howell

A 23-year-old Detroit man was arrested after fleeing from deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office after a traffic stop in the Kroger parking lot at Highland (M-59) and Oak Grove roads in Howell at about 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Deputies were trying to take the man into custody on multiple warrants when a brief struggle ensued; the man broke free and ran south through the parking lot and across Highland Road.

The man was found in a swampy area and was arrested without further incident.

The man is being held on a charge of resisting and obstructing, as well as on 26 outstanding warrants for his arrest from multiple jurisdictions throughout Michigan.

The driver of the vehicle, a 29-year-old Farmington Hills woman, was citing for driving on a suspended license and was released at the scene.

Deputies were assisted by the Howell Police Department.
