A 48-year-old Fowlerville man who told sheriff’s deputies that he was having a “mental crisis” sped his vehicle through the parking lot of St. Agnes Catholic Church, 855 E Grand River Ave. in Handy Township, and into a building that was the pastor residence.

The incident, which happened at about 8:55 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, occurred while church was in session.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the church “had locked all access to the building due to the driver experiencing a mental crisis. The caller later advised that the vehicle had struck the building. The driver then exited the vehicle and began to walk off.”

Deputies arriving on scene located the driver, who was uninjured and standing outside his vehicle. He told deputies that he was having a “mental crisis.” The man was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Ann Arbor for a mental health evaluation.

Deputies determined the building struck was the pastor residence. No one was inside the building or harmed during the incident.

The Fowlerville Fire Authority responded to the scene to assist with the damage.
