An 84-year-old man was airlifted to the Michigan Medicine Hospital in Ann Arbor in critical condition Thursday after the tractor he was performing maintenance on moved unexpectedly, trapping him beneath.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at about 2 p.m. to Steinacker Road in Cohoctah Township for a heavy equipment accident. When deputies arrived, they found the man trapped beneath a large farm tractor. The man had been performing maintenance on the tractor, which was left in gear, when the started engaged, causing the tractor to move unexpectedly and trap him.
The man was trapped for approximately two hours before the accident was discovered.
The man was extricated from beneath the tractor by the Howell Area Fire Department, and he was transported to the hospital by Michigan Medicine Survival Flight.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Livingston County EMS, Howell Area Fire Department, and Michigan Medicine Survival Flight.
This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau.
